Where have all the comments gone?

I know, it's Monday morning, but we've had a post* over the weekend. Now, we know Terry generally loves to wait until he has thought of a startlingly incisive response before he approves any comment (but, because he is a prat, has to make do with one of his revolving collection of petty insults) - but we haven't had a comment approved for 5 days now. And that was submitted on the 9th of December.

Come on, now, Terry. Your fans need you!

* A vaguely well intentioned post, and even sensible in minor parts, bashing one of the stupider ideas nu-Lab are pushing. However, to fisk:
  • "if this is not a sign of a society heading in the wrong direction then I don’t know what is." Labour election sleaze, Broon signing the EU Constitution, and Terry Kelly being re-elected.
  • £30 million according to the Guardian, not £60 million according to Terry.
  • Nothing in capitalism requires a high prison population, although, I'll admit, American populist politics seems to thrive on it. As does Chinese communism, Cuban socialism and Russian despotism.
  • "80% of prisoners have two or more mental health problems for which they are not being treated" - hrrm, can we see your evidence please. A clicky link thing will do (oh, the beauty of the inter-webby and its pipes.) I found a slightly aging study, which says 70% and doesn't mention treatment:
More than 70% of the prison population has two or more mental health disorders.
Male prisoners are 14 times more likely to have two or more disorders than men in general, and female prisoners 35 times more likely than women in general.

    - Social Exclusion Unit (2004) quoting, Psychiatric Morbidity Among Prisoners In England And Wales, (1998)
or a more recent one that mentions 80% but not 2 disorders and doesn't mention treatment (and the ongoing clicky is broken):
Prison Mental Health, 17th November 2005

    Prison healthcare - Inside Job
With 80 per cent of prisoners suffering mental health problems, PCTs are facing an enormous task when they take on prison health services in April next year.
  • This is not a Scottish Executive / Government / SNP notion and, therefore, as justice is a devolved matter, not going to impact Barlinnie.
  • "would have locked up Jesus and thrown away the key." Quite possibly true, but the Romans crucified him!

Who but himself would headline a post 'Visit the Prisoner' at a time when most of Labours top table plus Renfrew concillors look like finishing up inside?

Maybe Brian Souter could run a bus from Glasgow Labour Club to Barlinnie on visiting day?

Surely Wendy would be in Cornton Vale?

Nah - she wouldn't know anyone.
